Mayflower Anniversary

This week marks the one year anniversary of our announcement of the Mayflower migration tool. This tool was a response to Ancestry.com’s June 5th announcement that they would shut down myfamily.com. Our team worked very hard and didn’t have any time to reflect on the results of our effort. Once the dust settled after Myfamily.com shut down and after we delivered our Books and Calendar features we put together this fun infographic to commemorate the accomplishment of Mayflower. We are excited about the new enhancements currently in the works and can’t wait to share them with you once they are ready.

Thanks to the Mayflower team and thanks for those of you who believed in us enough to trust us with the task of saving your data.

  2. I congratulate Spokt and the Mayflower effort to save most of our data.I assume the possibility of recapturing the data which was housed in the myfamily file cabinets but when attempted to be opened on spokt reach the the error report “I’m sorry the myfamily website has been retired” … is out of realm of possibility.

  3. Millie says:

I certainly appreciate it. Thank you so much.

  4. Candace Wilmot says:

Yes, thanks again for the salvage effort. We really appreciate it.

We believed you could do and you did!!! I like the random photo feature because it not only brings back memories for updated comments but also because it exposes our older filed photos for new members to see. The net result is a more active and enjoyable site to use. I, as co-administrator of our hub, can hardly wait until your new features in development are available to use. Thanks for your positive attitude and commitment to this effort.

  6. I must confess, a few weeks before you came through with the calendar our family became impatient and we added a second site to try to keep up with all our friends and family and things kinda flopped, so today we are down to just SPOKT and all have been re-invited back to here as our future and hopefully life long family site.
Thanks to all of you we also have 20 plus years of our MyFamily info and pics that you migrated across for us
Great Job and keep up the good work

Thank you for Spokt and the Mayflower migration. I am very happy that 13+ years of family conversations had been saved for posterity.

I would like to ask what else can we expect from Spokt in the near future?

For one I would really appreciate ‘sticky posts’ which can be first thing that members see, such as a welcome message, reminders and urgent announcements.

    Would this be possible soon?

Thanks for all the great work thus far.

    1. Just wondering if the this idea for sticky posts would ever be taken up by the designers/programmers at Spokt?

    2. Katie says:

Hi, Vernon! I have sent your request over to our Developers 🙂

We have just started a site on Spokt. MyFamily.com sent us export files of our content a year ago before we heard of Spokt. Can you work from these export files to import our MyFamily.com info? In the meantime, we have been on another site for the last year, which didn’t work out (which is why we started looking again and found Spokt). What about importing from that site?

    1. Dan says:

Hi John, contact support (http://spokt.com/suppoort) and we’ll see what we can do. You’ll at least be able to upload your export files.

  9. Thanks. It’s such a small word. Only six letters. Not even enough to make the minimum required 8-letters of a password in some places. However, my Thanks means a lot to me, and I hope to Spokt. When I heard that MyFamily was closing, and closing so quickly (or so it seemed), I cried. So much work and I had only saved about half the site. Then came this thing called SPOKT. It was like someone throwing a life preserver ring through the fog. I couldn’t see from where it came. I was unsure. But, rather than drown, I grabbed on… and I’m so glad I did. The tears stopped and the happy heartbeats returned. Can I just say THANKS? I hope you will understand the true meaning of that word when I say it and you read it.

  10. Many thanks! Those two words seem inadequate somehow to descibe the tremendous appreciation I and my fellow Shadbolt descendants feel about Spokt saving our research and helping us all stay in touch. I dealt with the myfamily.com shut down in a panic of stunned silence! I had just finished dealing with cancer treatments and then I had to swiftly come to some conclusion on how and where there was a solution to the impending lost of our Shadbolt research. It was with much relief and satisfaction that we found Spokt and all of you worked so very hard to preserve our large amount of research. Thank you, Thank you very much….. we are truly grateful!!

    1. jgvincent says:

Maria, I tried many years ago to reach you, without success, as several Shadbolt researchers had recommended it. I’ve just picked up my Shadbolt research again, after a hiatus–Hannah Shadbolt, b Datchworth 1807 to William Shadbolt and Susannah. Is there a way for me to be in touch and perhaps figure out how my Hannah Shadbolt fits in? Thank you!

  11. Velma Silva says:

Thank you so much! Come a long way! So glad and happy I found you and I could transfer all the photos and comments from 2 sites we had at my family! It was worth it! And all our members are happy! TY TY TY!

THANK YOU SPOKT.COM and the MAYFLWER PROJECT for coming to our rescue.
As the myfamily group chased us out hurridly into the tempest after the S S Spokt happened by tossed us a life preserver and summoned her mother ship the SS Mayflower to our rescue.
After we had been promised all of out data and photos from the former site, instead in their haste they merely grabbed piles of photos some not ours, and many of ours missing as well we received others [most likely ours ened up in others piles us as did theirs to us] or when attempting to open appear as ‘you have tried to copy from M___.c_m however the site is retired!’ as we also received others], but then they M___y. reported no we will not follow through with presenting your texts.
Alas several of us administrators spent day and night trying hard to copy as much we could of our mega sites. Anxiety and stress began to take a great hold, when out of the dark cloud the sirens cried out “there is a ship on the horizon coming to aid you to safe harbor although you have lost “site” the MAYFLOWER has ‘spokt’ they well gather ye masses into your ‘hubs’ and allow your family branches to spread out as if spokes in a wheel.
THANK YOU SPOKT.COM and the MAYFLWER PROJECT for coming to our rescue.

  13. thank you Spokt and MayFlower for saving my site there is no way I could save it thank you from the bottom of my heart

    1. Katie says:

Hi, Mel! We are so happy that you are enjoying Spokt 🙂

  14. Cameron Hess says:

Speaking of anniversaries, how do we go about renewing our Spokt website for the coming year? Does each customer need to contact Spokt about paying another annual fee sometime in August or will Spokt be initiating this process with a blog post or emails to individual website administrators?

    1. Katie says:

Hi, Cameron! One administrator (usually the one who created the hub, but it doesn’t need to be) pays the yearly subscription fee. Contact Support (http://spokt.com/support) if you would like more information on your subscription information. 🙂

  15. David Church says:

    Spokt
Thanks for the hard work. We would be up the creek without you.

    1. Dan says:

Thank you David! We were glad to be able to help!
