Nesting is Back, Baby!

Hi Everyone!

As you can imagine we have a lot of irons in the fire right now:
* Building our MyFamily.com migration tool this is a monumental task. And we can’t wait to finish it and have you use it to preserve your years of history at MyFamily.com.
* Designing and Planning other new features like tags, calendar, etc.
* Helping the few of our users who are having trouble signing up, logging in, receiving invitations, etc.
* Fixing a few browser incompatibility bugs that are affecting certain users.

I ask you to please be patient as we wear ourselves out tackling these items.

Stop being patient about the nesting issue: We have fixed it! It’s back and it is better than ever.

Go try it out right now. I think you’ll be delighted with how it works. When you move your mouse over a comment the “Reply” link will appear. Click it to reply to that comment. It’ll be nicely nested below it.

If you haven’t signed up yet? Well, get on that! But you can see the nesting in the demo hub as well.

When using Spokt on the iphone, the spacing has become messed up with this new update. About 25% of the post goes too far to the right and can’t be seen.

Also, the reply feature does not work on mobile. The Reply link pops up but when I click, it just takes me to top of page with no new text window to reply to the post I clicked the link on.

I’m sure this stuff is getting fixed as I type this but just in case you weren’t aware yet.

    Thanks

Hi Kevin, thanks for the note. Yes we noticed it and fixed it. Sorry about that!

  2. John B says:

Glad to see its back! I did notice though that the “Write a reply here” message doesn’t go away when I start to type a reply, meaning I have to manually delete it from my reply.

Hi John, we were not aware of this issue. It should disappear as soon as you type the first letter or your response. Can you tell me what web browser you are using?

I have faith that you will fix this quickly but have you seen what today’s formatting changes did to mobile viewing? The right side of all posts is cut off.

Also, the Orange bar is better than the blue dot. Just my opinion but the blue dot doesn’t really pop out at me.

    1. dan@spokt says:

Hi Ellen, yes we fixed the mobile views. We’re sorry about that!

Thanks for your input on the orange bar. It was much loved and a subject of many long discussions at Spokt as we strive to give our users the best experience possible. We tried both and the blue dot was a better fit for the new nested design. We may bring the orange bar back to mobile.

Love the fix. I really appreciate you bringing this back. We are definitely liking our new website and appreciate how responsive you guys are.

      Thanks John!

I love the nested reply capability. But what’s with the new unviewed comments being in bold face. Thought one of my users was screaming at me or needed a lesson in HTML. It also obscures the imbedded HTML in the comments. Oops?

    1. dan@spokt says:

Hi Steve, I’m sorry you felt yelled at. At least it wasn’t ALL CAPS 🙂 Unviewed items are slightly emboldened to set them apart from viewed posts. Text in HTML strong tags inside unveiled items are even bolder than the surrounding text.

  6. Carolyn says:

Thanks! Like the fix and blue dot.

  7. Becky says:

I like the blue dot and especially the bolder print that let us know we have’t read the post. Thank you so much for all your hard work and long hours you have put in to bring us this replacement site for My Family. My seven siblings and I have used My Family for eight years to keep in touch. You are doing a great job!

    1. dan@spokt says:

Becky, it makes me so happy to read kind words from users like you. Thank you!

  8. Stevej says:

It’s all good progress, Dan. You can’t do everything. I appreciate the fact that you communicate with us. I wish it would catch on elsewhere!

    Steve

  9. John B says:

Dan, I’m using IE 11, but it doesn’t appear to be a problem anymore.

  10. Dena says:

    Thanks for the nesting!

  11. missy says:

will you have a calendar? That is one of our most used pages!

    1. dan@spokt says:

      Hi Missy,

We plan to build a calendar feature after we complete the automated MyFamily.com migration tool. Thanks for letting us know that your group wants it.

  12. Becky says:

Every day are new surprises. I like the addition of the edit, viewers, delete, and reply options in the lower right corner of the post. I am liking this site more each day!

  13. Sherri says:

Thanks for this fix. One more request…can the person’s name be moved back up under their profile picture? If the user doesn’t have a picture and it’s a long post, you have no idea who posted it until you scroll to the end and see the name. So, then you end up scrolling down to see the name, then back up to read it. The poster’s name needs to be at the top of the post so you know who is writing it as you read it!! PLEASE!

  14. We appreciate the Nesting, but we have had a suggestion to indent the Nested Reply more than the 2 spaces it is now…..Hard on the elder eyes to distinguish indentation. Thanks!

Dan, your head must be buzzing with all the changes and questions. We are happy with the site as it is; looking forward to a calendar at some point. One thing I hope may be possible at some point: a way of uploading photo albums- rather than one by one. Or is there another way of doing that?
    Oh- and we have paid!

  16. Marie Porter says:

Hi, am about 5 days in on the migration. Have gone thru the Import Queued stage and am now in the Process Import stage. My MF site is 5.9GB. Any ideas on how long this process will take from start to finish? thanks for all you’re doing, am excited to see the final product.

    1. Dan says:

Hi Marie, we’re excited to show you! We have an internal company goal to complete all the migrations this week. It sounded impossible when our team leader presented it to us but we’re really pulling out all the stops to make it happen!

  17. BetsyA says:

Sorry, lots of people with lots of questions I just can not answer. Is there somewhere that we can see an example? Not knowing what the site looks like or how much of what we liked on myfamily (i.e. family tree, photos, calendars, etc.)this site has. Thank you.

    1. Dan says:

      Hi Betsy,
You can try our interactive demo hub here: http://spokt.com/demo – You’ll see how families can keep in touch and build histories together. We don’t have a calendar but will begin work on one after the craze of Summer has past. You can upload files of any type including family trees.
