Mayflower Imports: Week 1

MyFamily.com Replacement

We recently launched the final Mayflower stage last week and we have seen quite a few successful imports since then. Happy customers makes us happy. We’ve checked in on those of you with completed migrations, and your enthusiastic and grateful responses have made the countless hours and sleepless night seem worth it.

That said, we’ve been watching the queue shrink in size more slowly than we’d like; importing the actual data—gigabytes and gigabytes of your precious memories—is taking much longer than we anticipated. Your content is safe on our servers but the job’s not done until you can see it in your own Hub.

We really appreciate your patience as we work through the many migrations we’re performing. Some of you have waited for an entire month. If you were preparing a microwave dinner, a few days would be an eternity. If you were riding the actual Mayflower from England to America you’d still have a month of sea sickness left. Not to mention the scurvy!

Your imports would all be neatly completed in a few months if we were the types to pinch our pennies, find a TV program and sit on our couches as we wait it out.

But that is not who we are.

We are in the process of upgrading our server capacities, buying more bandwidth, and restructuring our back-end network connections to be geographically closer together for improved speed. We are going over every line of code to squeeze every bit of performance out of it. We won’t stop working for you!

We won’t give up on you, and we’re so grateful that you’re not giving up on us. Please keep cheering for us and encouraging us—it is the best medicine for overworked souls. Once your import is finished and your Hub is buzzing, consider taking a moment to thank the individuals who have been working extreme overtime for the past two months and probably won’t get a break before 2015.

  1. Jim Keeley says:

Thanks for the update. Now I can sleep tonight.

  2. Cameron Hess says:

I’d like to second the motion that those whose migrations are complete please return to this blog and post the pros and cons and timelines for their MyFamily site to Spokt hub migration. Spokt, please approve for public viewing both the glowing satisfied customer reports and those experiencing mixed results so that the rest of us have realistic expectations.

    1. Sea says:

Totally agree Cameron. Restricting or selectively determining what postings you will allow can result in other issues, not to mention user dissatisfaction and frustration. We have been waiting over a month now for our migration…. I’d love to post a glowingly positive upbeat message but I’m still waiting. I’m happy to give credit where credit is due but certainly not before, sorry. I also have some bug reports I’d share but my messages aren’t getting “approved” or being answered so, I guess you’ll have to pay people to find them instead. See how that works?

    2. Dan says:

      Hi Sea,

Please send bug reports using our contact form at: http://spokt.com/contact. We are extremely busy with Mayflower so our normal response time is suffering. I’m sorry you feel that your messages haven’t been approved. Sometimes the blogging software mis-categorizes comments as spam. We’ll go through the spam folder as soon as we can! Sorry I can’t do more!

    3. Dan says:

We love both kinds of feedback and won’t hide something just because a user has a complaint. We try to be very open about our imperfections and hope our users can be patient as we make improvements to our products.

  3. Kerry Abbott says:

Glad to hear the data is safe, even if it takes a while! Thanks for all you are doing.

    1. Kerry Abbott says:

Thanks very much to the team! We received all our old threads today. Amazing work!

  4. Great job – everything is there.

great search engine – i would request you allow partial string search so ‘quint’ is displayed if ‘quintin’ is searched for.

I signed up a month ago and am very pleased.

    1. Dan says:

      Hi Marge,

I’m thrilled that you are happy with your import.

Our search does support partial words like “run” will find “running” and “slow” will find “slowly”. Your example uses a proper name which is not supported. We will look into it but I’m not sure if it is feasible.

  5. Larry Czarnik says:

    Thanks Spokt
Over 10 years worth of posts with 740 useres and as far as we can see not one post or user missed.
Yup there are some differences between MyFamily and Spokt. But nothing that can’t be resolved over time.
When you know that your data is a) safe, b) back in the land of the living and c) never at the mercy of a 3rd party again, all for less than one good meal and not the price of a small car, we for one (or 740!) are more grateful than words can express.
So we will say simply, in caps – THANK YOU each and every one of the hard and long working staff!!!!!!!!

  6. Bob says:

Thanks, guys. Go for it! As long as it works well, the wait is well worth it.

  7. Jim Keeley says:

Nice job. Looks good and I think all is there. What do we do when one of the seeded members wants to join? Thanks again. Incan get you more convertsbifbyounwant them?!

    1. Dan says:

      Hi Jim,

We’re always hope to have more happy customers. Send them on over!

The site members were assigned a username and password during the matching process. They should be able to log in. If they didn’t receive an email have them contact us and we’ll help them get on.

  8. JRA says:

Fabulous work, Team Spokt! Given that our alternatives were close to zilch for preserving years of family research and interaction beyond the basic MyFamily.Com export, Spokt has undertaken this timely intervention. So have patience, you pioneers, as Spokt grows and shapes itself for serving its newcomers.

  9. Gary Stearns says:

I am completely blown away! I wish I had saved the numbers of files, audios, photos, etc. that were imported. This info appears during the launch of Mayflower. I have used the other site for my HS class in preparation for our 50th reunion (last Sept). All the data was migrated over in less than three hours. I don’t know the exact time because once it started, I shut down my laptop and booted up three hours later.

All the class members that were on the old site but had not signed up for Spokt were sent invitations to visit Spokt. As far as I know, no one was missed. I believe those who were signed up were spared another invitation. This was all done behind the scenes.

I have tried the audio files and they work fine. I have viewed some of the photos and all the data, including the input in the text boxes that appeared alongside the photo, are there also.

Have had one log in issue where someone was refused access because their email was already in use. I am pursuing this. This issue may be a problem for some. We have a couple (married) who were both in our class and use the same email address.

Cameron, hope that gives you a candid appraisal.

    Gary

  10. Velma Silva says:

My Status has been on the import queued like forever! Doesn’t seem to be moving on! I notice the members that have joined at our SPOKT hub keep going back to the old site at My Family—think they are getting restless. Hope ours will be up very soon! Is there a problem? It’s Aug 6th already!
    Velma

    1. Dan says:

      Hi Velma,
I know it seems like forever. We can’t wait for you to see your site. There are a lot of people ahead of you in the queue but we think we’ll be able to empty the queue by the end of the week.

    2. Gary Stearns says:

As a user all I can say is have faith Velma. I requested an import from MyFamily right after their announcement and all I got was photos – no text,no audios, nada.

I looked into several other importers besides Spokt although I took a chance and subscribed early on. None of the others compared on first blush to what Spokt promised. Contrary to general Web experiences the results were all that I hoped for. If your members want to continue posting to MyFamily I compare it to swapping deck chairs on the Titanic. Tell them to keep the faith and feel free to copy this comment and send it out to them. You can even post it on MyFamily, lol.

      Gary

  11. SPOKT people – you are doing a fantastic job!

Even though we are still waiting (but in the last step – Finalize Import) I want to THANK YOU for all your efforts and hard work! This whole process has been exciting and yes, we understand, it takes time to make the move correctly. There is no one on our site who is chomping at the bit, so to speak! We are all pleased that we will have our data, in our turn! The alternative – the loss of all of it – was not a happy prospect, so once again, I say, thank you for saving 15 years of our extended families history!

    izolina

    1. Dan says:

      Izolina,

Thanks for your patience. We’re so excited for you to see the results of our labor, we’re doing everything we can to empty the queue by the end of the week and we think we might make it!

  12. Kayle Simon says:

    Two questions.

    1) is Mayflower now working on all MyFamily.com sites and not just 1.0 sites, and

    2) Why in our mayflower status page does it not even say “pending.” It doesn’t list our myfamily site, it doesn’t say pending, it acts like we haven’t even added it, and we are just concerned we’ve done something wrong but it also doesn’t give us a way to add it. We tried getting this going weeks ago and we’re worried we’re going to be too late and won’t be able to get it done before we lose everything.

    1. Dan says:

      Hi Kayle,
Myfamily.com 2.0 Sites are not ready yet. We will announce when we are ready to have you sign up and pay for a 2.0 migration.

    2. Kayle Simon says:

That’s where things were a few weeks ago; we’re not nervous that it’s taking a while, we are incredibly grateful you are trying, but we are just nervous it won’t actually happen in time, and we have weeks of pulling things off our site to save it manually if not. And not that many weeks left to go before we lose our site.

Any ETA? Last time I asked I think I was told end of July.

      Aren’t MOST sites 2.0?

    3. Dan says:

Hi Kayle, Actually about two thirds of sites are 1.0. We don’t have a firm date for 2.0 – but we think we think we’ll be able to finish it during the next two weeks. Since we’ll be able to re-use the import process from 1.0 once we finish the downloader piece we’ll be ready for action.

  13. Bob Shalvoy says:

My MyFamily information was imported this morning into our Hub and here is our experience:

    – 114 files
    – 990 news threads
    – 2,171 photo threads
    – 9 recipe threads
    – 9 review threads
    – 88 history threads
    – 288 member records

    A quick check showed that:

    – the news threads look complete
    – almost all of the photo captions were cut off after the first line
    – hub memberships were created for only a handful of our MyFamily members.

I didn’t check for the history files to see if they were added to the end of the news thread.

So, some good things and some “improvement needed” things.

    1. Bob Shalvoy says:

Update: Spokt fixed the bug in the Photo Description Import within 8 hours of being alerted and redid the import, so all is now well with the Photo Import for my hub.

  14. So excited to see the “small” site has made it over. We are waiting with bated breath until the “big” site makes the crossing. However, there appears to be a big problem, unless the site is still downloading. When I searched for postings made to the FILE and HISTORY sections in MyFamily, I find some text but no attached files, i.e., no newspaper clippings, obituaries, death certificates, marriage certificates, baptismal certificates, letters of commendation, census pages, diary pages, ship passenger lists, etc. It would appear we do not have a great deal of the information collected. I do hope that problem can be corrected.

    1. Dan says:

Hi Mary, you’ve contacted us regarding this issue, correct? We’ll work with you on a resolution.

  15. Kathy McNamara says:

Yippee! Looks like all my photos on all three sites from myfamily have been migrated to their hub counterparts. I got the e-mail this morning and so far that part looks great!

    BUT Like Mary Snodsmith,
I, also, have a lot of pictures in the history section on each of these three myfamily sites. I see the text part from the history sections went in the news at the hub but there are no pictures attached or showing up just a little square box. Will those show up later?

Some of my members have already showing up and posted on the three hubs! Spokt sending out the invites is terrific!

    1. Dan says:

      Hi Kathy,

Yippee! Please contact us so we can work on a resolution for your specific issues (http://spokt.com/contact)!

  16. LisaF says:

    well…. got my import today — 🙁
Only about 10 months worth of my family’s 10-yr-old MyFamily site. What gives????

  17. LisaF says:

Seriously… I am CRUSHED Now what do I do??

    1. Dan says:

You’ve already done what you need to do: contact us. We’re going to make it right. So sorry your import wasn’t perfect the first time!

  18. LisaF says:

Thanks, Dan… I was just so encouraged by reports of previous success. Let me know if there is any further info I can provide to help this along.

    1. LisaF says:

      UPDATE:
I am thrilled to report that the Spokt team got right on it! They immediately looked into and resolved my import problem, and now it looks like we have everything now! There are some duplicates in the photos, but I can deal with that. I am just so relieved and appreciative of the dedication shown by the Spokt staff. Well done!!

    2. RJ says:

      Hi Lisa,

You should not be getting duplicates of anything (unless they were duplicates on your MyFamily site). I would like to look deeper into this for you.

There is a known issue wherein a search will bring up multiple results for a single thread (as many as the number of comments on that thread – this is on our docket for future improvement). Some members have mistaken these for duplicate posts, but they’re only duplicate search listings.

Were you seeing the dupes through the search feature, or can you actually see the same photo and resulting conversation/thread on two different post (with different website urls)?

Thanks for the feedback, and we’ll make sure we get it perfect for you if it lies within our power!

      RJ

  19. RebeccaW says:

Our import is looking good! I have a lot to verify, but so far I’m impressed. Thank you!

One thing — I note that news from the beginning of our site in 1999 through April 2000 is not showing. I believe the opening Mayflower import screen addressed this, but I am not finding that message now. This data will come along later, correct?

Thank you again! I can’t wait for everyone in my family to log in.

    1. Dan says:

Yes, we’re going to get it and bring it in. MyFamily.com changed something in their system around May 2000. The developers can’t stop talking about how incredibly complicated it is to migrate this data.

  20. Kathy McNamara says:

Thanks! Dan and I sent in more specific with a url to show your techs what I am talking about! But it is the same on all three hubs anything from my history section at myfamily has no picture just a little square.

Puzzles on on three sites are showing up intact, as well as recipes!

  21. Candace Wilmot says:

Our import finished today and I’m thrilled to see so much that got imported. I have a question about all the duplicate entries that show up on a search, but that’s small potatoes compared to having all our data. Thank you, thank you for all you’ve done and all you’ll be doing in the future. And I hope you can get some rest soon.

    1. RJ says:

Hi Candace. So glad to hear your import is done!

The duplicate results in the search is a known issue, and occurs when there are multiple comments in a thread. It’s a bit cumbersome at the moment, but once the more critical features are updated, we’ll be giving search some definite love.

  22. Thank you, thank, thank you!!!

The import of our My Family site is complete! I did a quick check of the photos and history and 99% look just fine, unfortunately there is a however – at least two of the pictures are either upside down or sideways and there is no editing here, so I can’t fix that but it’s not critical, also we had a few videos and they did not make it across and the recipe section does not appear to be there either but none of these things are as important as having the bulk of all our data transferred to our Hub!

So, thank you once again, for a fantastic job!

    izolina :~))

    1. Dan says:

Great Izolina! Try searching for your recipes. I think you’ll find them. Also we’d be happy to rotate any images you need. Sent us a link and we’ll put them right.

  23. Steve says:

Announcement of import occurred on July 31st. Got my notice to beginning import 5 days later. Only had to re-identify 2 users. Import was flawless and only took minutes. Great job! My users are pleased.

  24. Christia Causbie says:

Hurray! Our Avary-Avery Family imported great! A few suggestions and questions:
    1. Do you automatically invite the members of the MyFamily site to the new site that I just imported or do I have to do that myself? If we have to invite them, it would be handy if you provided a button to “invite all” and just do it. Also, we need a re-invite button next to each name in the members list so we can “jog their memories” as time goes by.

    2. It would also be handy if we could return to where we were with a hilight on the news item we just read rather than go back to page one every time and then try to remember what page we were on.

Keep up the good work and congrats on this achievement!

    1. Dan says:

      Hi Christina,
Hurray! Yes, The new users that are created are sent a username and password automatically. We do want to give you some kind of “re-invite” feature too.
Try the “Older” and “Newer” links at the bottom of each post. They’ll take you right to the next item so you don’t need to go back and forth from the list.

Glad you’re pleased with your export!

  25. Dear Spokt family, We_Van.Cleave could not be more pleased. I like it just the way you did it. The search you gave us serves as the solution to most of my questions and in general it is refreshing to look at all this familiar stuff in a new and excitedly fresh way! It feels every bit a Family History gathering place. The fine search facility makes every surname important.

    Great Thanks,

    Cousin Bill Van Cleave

  26. Nancy Bryant says:

Our import happened a few days ago so we’ve had time to review and everyone is very pleased! ALL of our information is there. The problems we did find in the beginning were resolved very quickly. I do however have a couple of suggestions that would help us and wonder how others feel about them
1 exact post dates would work better for is than “over two years ago” etc. For genealogical information it is important to know which was the more recent post when there are multiple “discoveries” posted.
    2. It would help if the Recent button brought up all recent posts including comments on old News or Photos. Right now only new News or Photos show up and I often look at something and them want to get back to it a little later and have trouble finding it unless I can remember enough to search for.

I wonder how others feel about these.

But neither is critical so for now keep those imports going! You guys are doing great!

    1. Jim Keeley says:

Agree with nancy about the recent button. Are the album and category situation going to be addressed, or should we come up with our own scheme?
      Our import was great. Thanks.

    2. Gary Stearns says:

Nancy,I think you will find the answer to question 1 if you place your cursor over the gray text before the submitter’s name (e.g. “8 months ago by”) you should get a boxed annotation with the post date.

Apologies to Users if this was already answered somewhere.

      Gary

    3. Nancy Bryant says:

Doesn’t work on iPad or iPhone. I’m almost totally a mobile user. But good to know it’s there if I need it!

  27. RSteiniger says:

RJ and spokt team – you are beyond awesome! Import completed and 100% sucessful – any minor gliches were addressed by your team promptly…Hooray! We have successfully exported 373 Files, 1169 News Threads, 1120 Photo Threads, 7 Recipe Threads, 15 Review Threads, 617 History Threads, and 226 Member records from our MyFamily site. 13 years of research has been preserved… You have all far exceeded my expectations! Thank you everyone for all your hard work from all of us myfamily refugees!! I knew your young company would be up to the challenge.

  28. Rusty Weber says:

I must admit that I was a fence sitter. We were taking a look at all of the various alternate sites (and now there is even a new kid on the block). A friend on another site that is offering import services has been keeping me abreast of their import said more than a couple of weeks ago that he had been notified that his data had been retrieved from MyFamily and that he would be notified when it was ready to view on their site. I have not heard anything further, so I’m thinking that they must be having some problems.

However, I have been allowed to log into one of the sites that have been imported to a Spokt hub. Kudos to you guys!

My largest site is in the Import Queued status as I requested the import as soon as I was able to look over the imported site.

It is amazing to me that you guys were able to do what the developers and programmers at MyFamily that developed and maintained their site said would be impossible.

  29. Diane Hanger says:

You have done miracles, plain and simple. We have a large chunk of our memories here now, and the family is smiling ear to ear as we await th rest, relaxed and happy. The major surprise to me is that all the files are searchable! Not only that, it is a terrific search engine, and faster than lightening! Thank you. Get a little rest.

    1. Dan says:

Thanks Diane! So glad you are all happy!

  30. All of you have done and are continuing to do a tremendous job with the transfer of the data from My Family to our Hubs here!

The bulk of the transfer of 15 years worth of photos and news to our Hub, is perfect! There are a few little problems and if they could be fixed, it would be awesome!

There ware two pics that transferred upside down and one came in sideways! On page 6, Row 3, pic on the right is sideways. On Page 11, bottom row, pic on right is upside-down. On page 12, top row, 3rd pic from the right is upside down.

20 photos transferred as blanks – the names, dates and comments, if any, are there when you click on the blank space, but there is no image. Page 17, has 10 blank spaces in rows 5,6,7 & 8. Page 18, has 9 blank spaces in rows 1, 2, & 5. Page 27 has one blank space in row 1.

Now I have a question about the “Cabinet” where we had a number of articles, posts and stories as well as videos. A few of the articles transferred over in the “News” but without the photos that were part of the story! The videos did not transfer and neither did the recipes from the recipe section. My question is – was this how the transfer was supposed to work? If so, I can live with it, but if it can be fixed that would be great!

Once again, thank you for an amazing accomplishment! You guys rock!

    izolina

    1. Don says:

      Izolina,

I don’t know about the other issues, but as an administrator (and perhaps as a regular user) I see two icons at the bottom right of the photos that allow you to rotate the photo either clockwise or counter-clockwise.

      I hope that helps.

      Don

    2. Dan says:

      Izolina,

So glad you’re happy with your migration. We want to make you even happier! If you haven’t already please contact us: http://spokt.com/contact. We’ll be able to do a better job at resolving your issues if you contact us there.

      Thanks!

  31. Thanks Don,

That was what I needed – I rotated the photos and that part is good, now – I just can’t believe I missed those icons!!! I also went through the “News” page by page and I did find the recipes, spread throughout the listings, which makes them not very practical or useful! Another category for Recipes would be good and I and others, I am sure, could then copy them to it! But that still leaves the blank images and videos and I will use the other contact that you gave, to try and resolve that!

Thank you, again – I can’t tell how wonderful it is to get such quick responses to questions!!!

    izolina :~))

  32. Jim Keeley says:

Seems like you could have added a unique id, I used xrecipe on the recipes, to id these. Now I search on xrecipe and get the listing . That wa easy, but doing it for file cab it, history Eric will take a lot of time. Are you planning on doing something for albums and categories down the road?

    Thmx

    1. Nancy Bryant says:

Jim, that’s a good idea to make a unique id for recipes etc. I copied the list of files in History and File Cabinet from My Family and plan to make an index of sorts by posting them as a news item entitled File Cabinet Index etc. That way if you search first for File Cabinet Index you can figure out what to search for next. I think your method is better but will take more time to set up and hopefully these are just temporary measures. Nancy

    2. RJ says:

      Hi Jim,

Yes! We will be retroactively wiring up the categories for all the posts in news, not just photos. If you can bear with us, we will make things much easier to find.

      Thanks!
      RJ

  33. Jim Keeley says:

Yeh, hate to go through a lot of work, when I am sure spokt can come up with something moe system friendly. I think I will hold tight for now. I notice our site on myfamily went overboard on categories, pretty messy.

    1. RJ says:

Good call Jim, and thanks for the vote of confidence. We’ll make it right, and we’ll see if we can find a way to make it simpler to cull the excess stuff as well while we’re at it.

  34. Velma Silva says:

Just as I suspected–noticed some of our members are not joining up. I asked one of them on Facebook if they received my invitation from SPOKT. And this is what she said:
“Yes, I got it, but I didn’t respond to it yet. Had no idea it was about Bobcats, so I’m glad you reached back out. I’ll try it now but I hadn’t really planned to. Thought if was just another like Linked. Thanks!”

That is why I wish I could word the invitation. Not all our members have been active lately–therefore don’t know what is going on. Perhaps when I get my files in the hub we will be able to reword the invitation do you think? Our group is very large to use individually–the having trouble signing in.
    Velma

    1. RJ says:

      Hi Velma,

I can see that your import is still processing, but once you receive the official email to finalize your import, you’ll see there IS a new option to create a custom message, just as you have requested. Hopefully this will make it easier for you to lure these stragglers in. 😉

      Thanks for the feedback!

      RJ

    2. Nancy Bryant says:

RJ I looked and don’t see the option for a customized message. Where do I find it? Nancy

  35. Kathy McNamara says:

How long will it take for the images in news to show up? It has been saying 24 hours for more than 2 days and still none of the images are showing up on any of my 3 hubs. Do I need to contact support again?

Thanks so much for all spokt has accomplished with migrating our myfamily.com sites. My members are logging into the new hubs, making comments and so far thumbs up by everyone who has seen the spokt format!

    1. Velma Silva says:

Kathy I was having the same problem. Try clicking on photos (left-hand side of your screen)and they all appeared there for me. Also Click on NEWs and the comments-on News and History appeared there.
Files are all there —ThANK YOU SPOKT!

      Velma

  36. Liz Diening says:

Doing a good job, we just need to be patient and in this world we live in the fast everything is the norm. I love your honesty, very refreshing and look forward to spending many years on this site! Liz

  37. Jim Keeley says:

Need an administrator flash message that shows up as first message the members see. Information that is critical to a smooth operation should be “in your face” when signing in. Example I want the non avatar members to get one now. How else to say that and make sure they read it?

    Jim k

  38. Bernice Hoyle says:

My migration was finalized today – as far as I can tell so far, everything was moved (except maybe what was in ‘hidey holes’). I haven’t found anything that was in the file cabinet, but I haven’t checked each of the 100+ pages of news. Overall, I am pleased with the results and I am looking forward to a way to better organize everything.

Let me add our Worden family to the list of very happy folks who now have a successful migration. Spokt, you passed the test. You did what you promised. As a MyFamily user since 2001, I could never say that about them. Congratulations on all the hard work, Spokt Team. If you are still sitting on the fence looking for just the right MyFamily replacement, I urge you to sign up before MyFamily goes away forever. We are very glad we did!

    1. Dan says:

Thanks Glenn! So glad to hear you are happy with your data migration!

  40. Nancy Bryant says:

Bernice, the easiest way to test to see that items in File Cabinet are there is to go back to My Family and look at list of files in file cabinet and then search in Spokt by the title used for it. Same for Recipes, History etc. I just spot checked a few from each category. Nancy

  41. Ron says:

RJ, I just noticed any photo attached to a news item is not imported. The comments are fine, but no photo to see what is being talked about. I will say most of the data is there, but files in filing cabinet are also missing. Is there plans on fixing this later? Thanks so much for what you have done. I know I’m trying to be patient, but the decision to move larger site is on hold until we get a few things figured out. Thanks again.

    1. Bob Shalvoy says:

It also appears that links attached to News Items were also not supported.

    2. Dan says:

      Hi Ron,
You should see a message that says we’re downloading that image. Contact us (http://spokt.com/contact) and send us a link to the post where you see this issue.

  42. Nancy Bryant says:

For our import, the link is there if it was imbedded in the text but is not there if it showed up in My Family along the right side in red. I’m not sure why some links showed up this way in My Family and some didn’t. Anyhow those are the missing ones for us.

  43. Bob Shalvoy says:

Did anyone else notice that Spokt used the husband’s first name when creating hub memberships for the married female MyFamily members? Normally for us, the husbands weren’t MyFamily members and only listed in the MyFamily Address List.

    1. Dan says:

      Hi Bob,

Please contact us (http://spokt.com/contact) so you can provide specifics. We certainly didn’t mean to mix up any names. If we can do something about it we will.

    2. Bob Shalvoy says:

I just sent you a contact support message with an example of the two types of errors that occurred.

  44. Dede says:

Thank you do much! The migration is complete and we will forever be indebted to y’all for saving our “stuff”. We do have one member , however, who is having a lot of trouble with her password. She heard from Ken and would like to have more discussion with him. I can’t seem to help her. Also, how to I eliminate members who no longer participate? I can’t seem to find a tool for that. Thanks!

    1. Bob Shalvoy says:

There is a “remove” button for each member under Manage Hub|Kickout. But my question for the Spokt team is: when we remove a member, does anything happen to the name associated with their existing posts? I would want that information to stay so we will continue to know who made the post.

  45. Ron says:

I have also noticed that some news items were imported but deleted from the myfamily.com site. Does anyone know what’s up with that?

    1. Dan says:

      Hi Ron,
Did you expect them to not be imported or not be deleted? Our data exporter ran several weeks ago and is technically unable to delete MF content.

    2. Dede says:

Thanks, Bob! I should have looked there!

  46. Nancy Bryant says:

Yes I have the same question as Bob. I have the problem of multiple entries in the member list for people who have not signed up for Spokt ie the same name is there multiple times. I hesitate to remove them for fear their name will go away on a post.

    1. Dan says:

Hi Nancy and Bob, you can remove them without fear. The names will still be on the posts they created.

  47. Abe Taylor says:

Doing thing the right way ususally takes a little longer. I appreciate that. Keep on doing it right!

  48. Rusty Weber says:

HOORAY! WE HAVE SUCCESSFULLY EXPORTED 421 FILES, 1548 NEWS THREADS, 1837 PHOTO THREADS, 279 RECIPE THREADS, 132 REVIEW THREADS, 6553 HISTORY THREADS, AND 1380 MEMBER RECORDS FROM YOUR MYFAMILY SITE “THE RANDOLPH SITE”.

I customized the invitation, but when I click Stage #3 I get an error message:
    DNSERROR&q=http%3A%2F%2Fspokt.com%2Fmayflower%2Fsite_imports%2F482

Should I just go back and let the standard invitation be sent? Will that correct the problem?

    Thanks.

    1. BillR says:

      Yay!!!!!

    2. Dan says:

      Hi Rusty,
DNSERROR ? That sounds like it might be a temporary problem with your internet connection. Very strange. I don’t think changing the invitation text has anything to do with it but if you continue to have problems you can contact us here: http://spokt.com/contact

    3. Rusty Weber says:

After several attempts, I was able to finally get through the 3rd step and the data is starting to show up on the site. Of the 1,380 members, there are currently 39 pages of members listed. (Hopfully the rest of the list will appear before too long).

I do have a question though. If they were an Admin on our MyFamily site, will they automatically be marked as an Admin for our hub? If not, is there a way to “search” the members list for a particular person, or will it remain a “hunt and peck” situation as it is now?

  49. Velma Silva says:

My migration is completed and let me THANK all at SPOKT who helped make this happen. We are a very large group of High School friends at our site! The only problem is we already had a handful that had joined. And the New ones brought in from MY FAMILY all dropped their last name! In my family we had each name with a year they graduated added to their last name with the ladies adding their maiden name to their last name with the year they graduated afterwards Example: First Name: Velma Last Name: Estimbo Silva ’62 Well it dropped the last name and only got Example: Velma ’62

NOw I have a problem–they all went into the already joined and don’t know how to send out their invitations! Plus I don’t know all their last names! And as an administrator cannot do any corrections on their profiles.

    HELP!

    Thanks,
    Velma

    1. Dan says:

Hi Velma, we are aware of the issue people have had with the names. We had assumed that names would be names and not have Suffixes like ’62 and “RIP” – we’ll get it all straightened out but it may take some time. If we can move thousands of posts in a few days we can get a few names to display correctly.

    2. Bob Shalvoy says:

      Dan,

One solution would be to allow admins to modify certain parts of the user profile. So long as the number of members with “issues” is a reasonably small one, we admins could fix this problem ourselves.

  50. Jim Keeley says:

One of my members was invited to a mother site that just imported there stuff. Could not get on and worst yet can not get back onto our site? Is this a cookie problem? Need to get him on ASAP. Thnx.

    1. Dan says:

This was resolved, right? Please contact support for issues like this. We on the blog staff are more equipped to answer questions that handle technical issues.
