New Features: August 2016
We deployed three new features this weekend and we’re excited to share them with you. We’re focused on continually making Spokt better for you!

Hub Avatars – Hub Avatars make it easier than ever to know which Hub you are currently using. Hub avatars also give admins a chance to personalize the group’s identity.

Advanced Search – We’ve made Spokt’s powerful search even better with advanced options to refine your searches. Can’t find that photo that Julia posted? Advanced search is here to help!

Featured Photo – In addition to the much loved Remember This? feature, pin a newly uploaded photo, or pull out an oldie from the archives and help everyone reminisce a little more.
Thank you for the additional options and features. I have figured out the ‘feature photo’ and ‘advanced search’ feature but can’t figure out how to place a photo in the ‘hub home’ area. When I click on the ‘feature’ icon, it places that picture on the top right of the front page. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks again for the additional features.
Hi Millie,
The hub avatar can be selected from the Manage Hub screen.
Thanks for the new features. Really like the “Feature Photo.”
I wish you had given us the option to choose a photo from our hubs for the hub Avatars.
Thanks for the feedback Roger, and thank you for your feedback. I’ll pass it along to the product team.
Completely agree with Roger, we would like to have our own photo for the Hub Avatar.
Over the weekend, when I tried to add a feature photo via my iPad, it wouldn’t work. It does work from my desktop computer. Is this a known issue?
Thanks for the ongoing updates and added features!
Hi Lisa, I’m sorry you’ve had issues uploading from your iPad. Our support team can help! Please contact them here: http://spokt.com/support
Truly enjoying the featured photo and new search but can’t find any instruction for Adding a Hub Avatar?
Hi Bill,
You can choose from the available avatars on the Manage Hub screen. At this time you cannot upload your own.
I strongly recommend that you allow the group to choose the avatar from their own photos (or an image of their choice). The choice of scenes you offer really doesn’t define our group – or probably most groups. The only thing I miss from the old my family site (and believe me, this is so superior!) is that we had our own photo which defined our group. I hear comments from others in the group all that time about missing that feature that really defined us.
Thanks Diane for the recommendation. I’ll pass it along to the product team. For the time being I suggest that you feature a photo that fits your group.
My “Remember This” feature has disappeared. Is this normal or is it a glitch?
Eamon,
The “Remember This” feature is still part of Spokt. Please contact support so they can look into your individual case. https://spokt.com/support
“Remember This” has returned. Thanks if you sorted the problem. I would like to support the idea that the administrator be allowed to choose the Avatar from the Hub photos. The suggested Avatars mean nothing to people.
The two features still missing after a couple of years are making it so recently replied to messages move to the top of the list and batch importing photographs. Thanks for the updates!
Thanks for the feature suggestion, glad you are enjoying the updates.
I commented this before I thought, but the first word in our site name is The, so we were getting the letter T embossed over the avatar, which was random, as we were already not feeling love for the avatar the random letter was bothersome. I found that if you insert a space in front of the first word yiu can eliminate the embossed letter altogether.
Suggestion for the next update, besides allowing us to pick our own avatar 🙂 would be to allow for pictures to be added in the comments of a post or picture, nap when you’re discussing Halloween costumes, for example, yiu don’t have to start a new thread for each picture being discussed. 🙂 Thanks for the current improvements!
are there other groups Here? how do I find a list of them?
All the groups are private. There is no list.
We are glad to have the Featured Photo feature back. It would be nice if the photo caption was included.
Is there any way to view the photos in a slide show?
Hi Lawrence,
Currently there is no slideshow feature. I will inform the product team of your request.
Re: Calendar
One of my Great Likes with the old myfamily.com is when the users get an email reminder of birthdays and events coming up. I had requested this feature if it is at all possible. I think it promotes visits to the site.
I understand early on that this was in the Spokt plans. Is it still?
Thank you.
Hey Deo, thanks for the feedback. We added a calendar with birthdays but there are no notifications. I will pass your suggestion onto our product team.
How about adding a way to post photos directly from an iphone or other smartphone. It would be so handy to send photos to Spokt while on the go or away from home.
Hi Sandre, you can (and should) post photos from your iPhone or other smartphone. Just tap the “Add Photo” link in the footer of our mobile website!
Do you have any plan to facilitate inserting photos, links, etc. into existing posts?
Hi Duffy, thanks for your question. I’m sorry to say I don’t have an answer for you. Except in rare cases we do not publicly discuss future features and enhancements to Spokt.
My major wish would be for Spokt to have a better photo uploader. Our family just held a reunion, and we have almost 300 photos we would like to post to our group. Super tedious to upload them one at a time! Something like the Facebook photo uploader would be very helpful.
Thanks for the feedback Ardeth! I will inform the product team.
Agree about needing to upload groups of pictures. Very tedious to do them one at a time.
My suggestion for keeping the site active bears an extra dividend when the “Remember this” is accidentally a good choice. As in this case, I thought it was such a good choice that I have also used the “Feature Photo” function to feature it on the cover. I want to encourage other members to do the same thing when random selection for “Remember this” accidentally makes good sense to you and suggest something interesting to post. This “Feature Photo” retains the photo until you have exhausted the subject even though “Remember this” will have moved on to something else.
